OnePlus Co-Founder Carl Pei Quits

Carl Pei has parted ways with Chinese smartphone heavyweight OnePlus after propelling it to top of the charts since helping co-found it in his early 20’s. While it is not yet clear where he will be going, immediate reports indicate he intends to start a new venture.

Pei’s OnePlus Milestones

Pei has played a pivotal role in helping OnePlus compete against other smartphone heavyweights. He will be remembered for spearheading the design process of the OnePlus smartphone over the years, including the recently launched OnePlus Nord.

In addition to spearheading the design process, Pei has also played a pivotal role in marketing the company through trade conferences and interacting with investors and customers. He has also been the face of the company giving interviews to the media.

OnePlus has evolved over the years to become one of the most successful premium brands not only in China but also in India. In the early years, Pei opted to live in low-cost hotels in India and China as he sought to have a better understanding of the smartphone market. When the company was struggling with scaling, Pei opted to sell the company’s smartphones through invites while also leveraging other clever marketing techniques.

Pei will be best remembered for once asking fierce rival Samsung to hire him so he could learn more about overseeing operations and logistics.

Carroll County Fiber Internet Boost

Separately, Carroll County residents in Tennessee have something to cheer about after TEC announced a matching grant as part of the USDA ReConnect Program. As it stands, fast fiber internet is coming to parts of the county after TEC was awarded $2.7 million in grants to make the project happen.

The fast fiber project will cover 38 square miles and should end up providing fast internet connections to more than 600 homes, businesses, and farms. The interconnection could not have come at a better time, given the growing demand for fast internet speeds to support the working from home programs as well as streaming of content.
